GUIDE 2024

What is Korketrekkeren?

Korketrekkeren is an approximately 2,000 metre long tobogganing track near Holmenkollen in Oslo.

It used to be a bobsleigh track as well.

The route goes downhill for 255 metres.

Interestingly, Korkentrekken also hosted the first World Luge Championships (1955).

Where is Korketrekkeren located?

Address: Holmenkollveien 201, 0791 Oslo

Korketrekkeren runs between two metro stations:

Frognerseteren (469 moh) and Midtstuen (223 moh).

🇳🇴 moh (meter over havet) = metres above sea level

You can get there by taking metro line 1 (all the way up!)

How to get to Korketrekkeren?

If you take the metro, you need to get to the last stop - Frognerseteren.

You can get there by T-bane number 1.

Example of travel time:
From Nasjonalteateret to Frognerseteren it takes about 33-35 minutes by metro.

Once you are there

The ride down the hill takes 8-10 minutes if you don't stop along the way.

After the ride, you will land near Midtstuen station.

Get on the metro there and after 13-15 minutes (7 stops) you will be back at Frognerseteren, where you can start sledding again.

Waiting at Midtstuen station for the metro to take us back up the hill

How to use the track?

The sledge is operated manually, or rather with your feet - you brake with your feet, so it's a good idea to have spikes on shoes.

(If you want to turn right, you brake with your right foot, and if you want to turn left, you brake with your left foot).

I recommend wearing a helmet.

Wear warm and waterproof (!) clothing and take extra care to keep your bottocks dry.

(Both helmets and clothing can be rented on site).

On the way down, you will pass the Holmenkollen ski jump, where the Polish ski jumper Adam Małysz jumped. Did you know that he is the only ski jumper in the world to have won a record 5 times there?

Costs and rentals

Use of the toboggan track is free of charge. The only thing you have to pay for is to hire a sledge (more on this below).

You can of course bring your own sledge.

Somewhere along the route - view of Oslo from above in the background

Is it worth it?

It is worth it!!!

It is great fun for young and old.

The route is beautiful and goes through the forest and at one point you can see Oslo from above. Picturesque views!

For me, this kind of sledging is like meditation in motion. A great experience and lots of laughs.

(...and a completely wet bottom if you wear jeans instead of waterproof trousers, as I did the first time. Luckily you know exactly how to prepare!)

Set off reasonably early. Take a thermos and some snacks with you and you won't even notice when the day is over.

As the Norwegians say: ut på tur aldri sur = out on a trip, never grumpy!
